Are You The One S7|E11: I Know Where You Live

October 16, 2018 Emily
DpMZpHOVAAA1kEg.jpg

Welcome back Are You The One fans! I am so excited to be recapping this episode because this one was SO GOOD and I had to watch it multiple times just to make sure I didn’t miss out on any of the action for you. We’ve got betrayals. We’ve got scavenger hunts. We’ve got unicorn costumes. We’ve got Trump supporter Cam dancing around in a leaf skirt (see above). Really, this episode has a little something for everyone.

But let’s take a deep breath and start from the beginning. Remember last week when we ended half way through the Match Up Ceremony? Cali came up with a good plan for figuring out some of the matches in this house. Just to recap, they got four beams last time. So this week, everyone stayed the same and they switched up two of the couples. If they got four beams, that means the two couples who were switched are not matches. If they got two, that means those two couples are definitely matches. It’s not difficult math, but for some reason these idiots in this house don’t understand why this is such a good idea. Trust me though. I’m smart. It’s a good idea. So let’s see how it turned out.

RIVERDALE IS BACK, BABY!

Our favorite murdering, backstabbing, dramatic teen trash fire is finally back on the air, just in time for Halloween. Season 3’s premiere “Labor Day” was WILD and had many twists and turns. Let’s get to it!

(You might notice we’re trying out a new recap format this season — and that we’ve also got a new team member, BSG contributor Gabriella. Thank you, Gabriella. We’re so sorry.)

Seven Lessons Buffy the Vampire Slayer Can Teach You, Even as an Adult Woman in 2018

October 12, 2018 Kelli
httpsstatic2.srcdn_.comwordpresswp-contentuploads201807Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-Season-1.jpg

Around two years ago, at the onset of spooky season, I decided it was about time that I sit down and watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the first time.

I’d been told by countless people that it was a phenomenal show and that it was right up my alley, but even with all of the hype and expectation, I was still surprised by the effect this show had on me. As many people will tell you, BTVS takes a little while to work its magic. I was enjoying it well enough, but it wasn’t until around the third season that I realized, quite suddenly, that I’d fallen in love with this show. By the time I reached season 7, almost every episode made me cry. I think I’d gotten the idea that by not watching Buffy while it was on television, I would never be able to connect to it in the right way. Obviously, I was wrong.

For a while, I’ve been planning to write a blog post about this show. There is a lot of excellent writing out there about BTVS already, and I became obsessed with figuring out a unique perspective to present. What is there about this show that people haven’t considered and written about ten thousand times before? Should I write about how the trio in BTVS presents a perfect parallel to the trio in the Harry Potter series? How about an examination of the loneliness of the ‘chosen one?’ A listicle about Buffy’s trench coats? There were a lot of different angles I considered, some of them more ambitious than others, but ultimately I decided that sometimes the best place to start is the simplest.

So, without further ado, I present: Seven Lessons Buffy the Vampire Slayer Can Teach You, Even as an Adult Woman in 2018. (There are seven because the show has seven seasons, but I didn’t correlate each lesson to a season because what do I look like, a professional? Cut me some slack, guys.)

Are You the One S7|E10: This Isn't 'The Notebook'

Hello AYTO fam. I did a bit of traveling this week, so I’m behind on my television watching. I know, it’s a real shame. But I finally got around to watching this episode, so here is your recap. Get it while it’s hot (before you watch the new ep tonight).

Why does Cali look so excited, you ask? I will get to that. Hold your horses.

First, we have to go back to where we left off last week, with Lewis telling Asia that he didn’t find her attractive . . .

What Do I Like About You?

October 7, 2018 Emily

Sometimes the best way to work through your feelings is to write them all down. That’s exactly what I’m doing here with Lifetime’s latest thriller television show You, starring Penn Badgley, Elizabeth Lall, and Shay Mitchell. It seems as if this show has been generally well received, and yet there’s still so much about this show that lands in squarely in the “guilty pleasure” zone for me. So what is the deal with You? Is it good or is it so bad it’s good? And why can’t I decide?

Time to get to the bottom of my feelings about You…

Be the Cowboy: A Conversation about Mitski, Femininity, and the Joy of Loneliness

October 5, 2018 Kelli & Mary

In August of this year, indie-rock (punk-disco-pop?) musician Mitski released her highly-anticipated fifth album, Be the Cowboy. Her last record, Puberty 2, was widely acclaimed by both critics and plebs like us; one song, “Your Best American Girl,” even managed to place at #16 on NPR’s 200 Greatest Songs by 20th Century Women. Needless to say, expectations for her follow-up album were exceptionally high. Of course, Mitski surpassed them anyway, because she is our queen.

Are You The One S7|E9: A Date with Destiny... and Dolphins

September 30, 2018 Emily

I just needed to start with this gif because, wow, this was the big bombshell of the night. Not that it was totally surprise, but dang, the way Lewis laid it all out there for Asia at the end of this episode was HARSH. It’s all anyone is talking about. And by that, I mean, it’s all I’m talking about because I don’t know many other people who watch this show. Where y’all at?

But more on this later. Let’s start at the top. Apparently there was a cliffhanger at the end of last week’s 2 hour episode. So let’s rewind and go over what went down.

Are You The One S7|E7&8: You Gotta Play the Game Correct

September 25, 2018 Emily
DngMeSVWwAEBIFs.jpg

Oh my word. Last week gave us two hours of Are You the One drama, which is par for the course for plenty of other shows. The Bachelor often overloads us with 3-4 hours in one week. Love Island is basically on, like, all the time. But in Are You the One land, two hours of television in one week is a LOT OF DRAMA. I’m feeling a little motion sick from trying to follow all of it, but I’m putting on a brave face and delivering it all to you in this recap.

We start with some Daniel and Samantha drama. Let’s set the stage.
