WELCOME BACK to YA Book Club. This month, Mary and Emily discuss Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, a YA fantasy novel with a huge scope—and maybe even a movie in the works. Read on for our chat-style conversation!

Good evening, Riverdalians.
This week, we’re pulling out our typewriters and putting on our strangely-shaped hats as we recap “Chapter Forty-Six: The Red Dahlia,” or as I’m going to call it, “Chapter Forty-Six: Jughead Experiments With Film Noir Narration.” Grab your magnifying glass and join us for another excessively wild ride.
Read moreHow Dare You Do that to Bradley?: 3 Snubs of the 2019 Oscars
The 2019 Oscar ceremony is going to be a joke for many reasons.
No one wants to host the damn thing. The back and forth of how many nominees for Best Original Song are going to perform. The fact that Bohemian Rhapsody is up for Best Picture. And more! But what follows is a list of things that I expected to be certainties. Instead, what I heard on the morning the nominations were televised was nothing but disappointment. Here are a few of those disappointments.
(Spoilers ahead for A Star is Born.)

Well.. this week was quite a rollercoaster of emotions everyone. We had some high highs and some low lows, so rather than belaboring that point, let’s just get right into it!
Emily: Nǐ hǎo, Bachelor Nation. While Susan is on her very own overseas date in Europe with her boy toy, my friend and yours Kelli will be filling in. Let’s give her a warm welcome.
Kelli: Hello, everyone. It’s me, Kelli, resident Bachelor Nation Newb filling in for Susan while she gallavants through Europe like a real-life Bachelor contestant. There are a lot of things I’m still figuring out about this show, and I have a lot of questions about the things that went down in this episode, but my first question is: can we award Chris Harrison any points? Because he definitely deserves some for calling Hannah B(ama) “Caelynn” in front of this entire group of women. Truly devastating.
Read moreRENT: 525,600 Times Yes!
When Mary asked Emily if they could do a blog post about RENT, LIVE! (ok it wasn’t totally live but we’ll discuss that) together, Emily said, “525,600 times yes!” So here they are, discussing Rent, their love for Rent, and their discussion about how this whole FOX spectacle came together. And how it didn’t. So without further ado and before we start bursting into song, let’s get into it, shall we? After all, no day but today! Sorry. I’m sorry.

Gabriella: I’ve left the sunny shores of Puerto Morelos for dreary Riverdale and I can’t say I’m glad to be back. This episode had a bunch of shocks and reveals — were y’all as surprised as I was? Maybe all the margaritas have gone to my head but I think Hal is my new favorite character…
Anyway, vamonos!

The title just about sums it up. My job here is done.
Oh wait, you want to hear more? Okay, fine. I’m going to be totally honest with you. I’ve been in a dark place lately. I’m in graduate school, so I’m familiar with dark places. Comprehensive exams are looming, dissertation deadlines are quickly approaching, and I’ve needed a bit of help getting through this end-of-school slump. After all, I don’t think you can call it Senioritis anymore when you’re, like, in 100th grade.
So how have I been dealing with the darkness? By indulging in a little YouTube show called Single Girl Tries the 100-Baby Challenge in the Sims 4. Catchy title, I know.

Ahoy, Bachelor Buccaneers! Arrr, it’s your favorite time of the week, mateys. It’s time for Captain Susan and Captain Emily to man their ships: S.S. Here to Make Cocktails and S.S. Drowning in Bitches. Which ship will sail, and which team will walk the plank? Avast ye! Read on to find out. Remember, dead pageant girls tell no tales (or something). Here we go.
Susan: We’re back in the Bachelor mansion, where the magic happens. Except not this year because in case you forgot, Colton is a virgin. Don’t worry: the show will remind you.
Emily: The Colton cam is not back at the beginning of this episode, and I for one am not mad about it.
Susan: They’ve been hinting at the Miss USA pageant queens’ feud for a couple weeks, and we finally get a taste in episode 3, and it tastes like spray tan.
Emily: And yet we still have no idea what this drama is about, which makes for boring television, but more on that later.

Welcome back, Riverdale fans!
We’ve been gone over the holiday break because the show was on hiatus, but now it’s back and more bonkers than ever. Did you miss us? We missed you. Let’s just jump right into it.
(Also: it’s just Kelli and Mary this week, because Gabriella is off having fun in Mexico. We’re not jealous at all. We’d much rather be here, recapping this stupid show, obviously.)
