Roll Tide! It's Almost Time For Alabama Hannah to Date Thirty Dudes on TV

May 11, 2019 The Squad

Bachelor Nation, this break between The Bachelor and The Bachelorette every year is always a long one. Monday nights have been a little less special, with a little less wine. But finally May is upon us, and so is Hannah’s season of The Bachelorette. We have never been so ready for something since the final season of Game of Thrones. So let’s get straight into judging the crop of men ABC has chosen for our girl.

Note: Our usual Bachelor recapper and superfan Susan is MIA because she’s in the middle of moving. But never fear. Our good friend Bonnie is back (your might remember her from judging the ladies of Colton’s season), and we also have a BONUS guest Chloe who is also here to share her thoughts, judgment, and disdain. Enjoy!

WELCOME BACK, RIVERDALIANS!

We’re nearing the home stretch of this season—and boy has it been a marathon. How will the writers wrap up this whole Gargoyle King plot? Let’s see if they can! In typical Mary fashion, I’ve split up this ep into groups of characters.

Grab a drink because you’re gonna need it. It’s time for our second #Hatepisode, featuring A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena. We discuss the bonkers plot, the cardboard characters, and the oh-my-goodness-it’s-so-bad writing. Then we dig into some reviews so you don’t just take our word for it. Everything gets way better after that because it’s also our second BIRTHDAYSODE! Listen as we exchange gifts and tell each other how awesome we are. Read along for our next #Bookpisode, a book we think you’ll actually like, with An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green. On our next #othersode, it’s our first ever #travelsode as the #BookSquad heads to New Orleans! Follow us on social media and don’t forget to rate, review and subscribe!

If You Haven't Watched Hulu's The Act, You Are In For A Treat

May 3, 2019 Mary & Emily
da act.jpg

In a media culture that is saturated with true crime television at the moment, it takes a special show to stand out from the crowd. Hulu’s new television series The Act, which just finished its first season, is that kind of special show. Based on a Buzzfeed newspiece written by co-showrunner, producer, and writer Michelle Dean, The Act follows the tragic story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother Dee Dee.

Read the Buzzfeed article to get the details of the case. Then watch Mommy Dead and Dearest for even more shocking details. If you’re anything like Mary and Emily, you’ll still be fascinated by this fictionalized account of this unbelievable story. Here’s why…

I Think You Should Leave: The Weird Show You Should Be Watching

May 1, 2019 Mary
ithinkyoushouldleaveposter.jpeg

A few nights ago, Todd and I had a familiar conversation about what to watch while eating dinner together. He suggested a new sketch comedy show on Netflix, I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, and I agreed. After all, it was only about 20 minutes long, and if it was bad, we could just stop. That is the joy of Netflix after all.

But we didn’t stop. We kept watching episode after episode until we had watched the entire series. Episode after episode. For the most part, I sat with my mouth hanging open in shock.

This month, over a year after its initial premiere at Toronto International Film Festival, Unicorn Store was finally released on Netflix. Here at BSG we are known advocates of Brie Larson, from her incredible work in Room to her turn as action hero Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel — but how did we feel about Larson’s directorial debut? Read on as Kelli and Mary dissect childhood fantasies, Art World expectations, and the Lisa Frank aesthetic in this conversation about Unicorn Store.

(Spoilers to follow.)

Ron-Clark-Survivor-620x375.jpg

Previously on...Survivor!

The Vata tribe, led by Wardog, decided to get rid of the returning players once and for all (Edge of Extinction notwithstanding), sending David “My Brand is Loyalty” Wright and Kelley “Wentworth” Wentworth to the Edge of Extinction. Will those decisions put a target on Wardog’s back now that he seems to be in charge? And will RON CLARK go full villain and throw all the rice into the ocean? Probably not, but let’s find out in this recap!

Riverdale Recap! S3E18: Jawbreaker

April 23, 2019 Mary, Kelli, & Gabriella

After a short hiatus, Riverdale has returned with a bang! Or like, a sound, at least.

This week we got to check in on a number of plots, from the happenings at Edgar Evernever’s Farm to the latest G&G quest, and were even treated to an amateur boxing match at a teen-owned gym sponsored by a teen-owned speakeasy. Teens! They own stuff.

Let’s get on with our attempt to pull this apart.
